In this area of the Preotact® website you will find the most frequently asked questions related to the use of the Preotact™ pen.
| The daisy tip is locked ? |
Press the release button again, if this does not work, try to release the daisy tip by gently pulling it out with your fingers while pressing the release button.
Note: It is still possible to take the injection with the daisy tip locked. |
| The needle does not click on ? |
| Try again and carefully press the needle down until you feel it click in place. If this does not work then try to screw the needle on instead, or take a new needle. |
| The needle does not come off ? |
Try to click the outer needle cover on again.
If this does not work, then try to hold firmly around the area where the needle is clicked on, when screwing it off.
If this does not work, remove the outer needle cover and unscrew the needle without it, be careful not to prick your fingers on the needle. |
| The cartridge will not slide out of the daisy system ? |
Check if there is a needle attached. If this is the case, remove the needle and the cartridge should slide out.
If this does not work check and see if the cartridge is aligned correctly - if this is not the case - try to rotate the cartridge. |
| The medication is not clear ? |
If this is just after adding the cartridge, gently rock the pen back and forth and let it sit for a while longer.
If the medication is still unclear you must replace the cartridge - it may have been stored too cold and been exposed to frost or have become contaminated.
Do not take the medication if it is unclear. |
| Air bubbles can be seen through the window ? |
This is no problem since this is an injection just under the skin, the air bubbles will not harm you.
To reduce the amount of air in the cartridge it is important to hold the pen upright while screwing it back together and while priming, when a new cartridge has been added. |
| The dose counter is not showing 'P' but the medication cartridge has to be changed ? |
If a “P” is not present in the dose counter window, when the cartridge should be changed, the dose switch and dose activator should be activated as if preparing and taking the injection, until a “P” appears.
This must only be done with either a needle attached or the pen bodies screwed apart:
Slide the dose switch to GREEN, and press the dose activator. Then slide the dose switch to RED, back to GREEN, and press the dose activator again. Each time you do this, the number in the dose counter will go down. When you reach “1”, press the dose activator once more and the “1” will change to “P”. Slide the dose switch to RED. The pen is now ready to be loaded with a new medication cartridge. |
| The dose activator will not push down all the way ? |
Check if the dose switch is all the way on GREEN.
Check if you have attached a needle to the pen, if this is the case then the needle may be blocked. Replace the needle.
There may not be any more medication left in the cartridge, check in the window and replace the cartridge if it is empty. |
| The pen is not functioning correctly ? |
| If the problem is not described anywhere in the Questions and Answers section, please use the Hotline or website or contact your doctor or nurse. The pen may need to be replaced and the malfunctioning pen returned to Nycomed. |
| The dose switch will not slide all the way to GREEN ? |
Do not use force.
If this is your last dose – you may not have slid the dose switch all the way to GREEN when screwing the pen together.
You should replace the cartridge. Remember to forward the dose counter until a “P” appears. (For instruction see elsewhere in the Q and A section).
If this is not the case or it does not solve the problem, call the Hotline (ask your doctor or nurse) or go to the Preotact website and send a question using the 'ask about Preotact' section. |
